O Bright Star

Bright star
O we wait for you
Our trellaced hands tremble
At the thought of your arrival

O bright star
Planets conjoined like fertile twins
Arrive on this timeline of sorrow
Show us — a lightbox in this land of ash -

Bright star
O tell us — lead us out of darkness
With your burning mouth open
With the truth of a thousand aches-

Bright star
I looked up into your fire
A moment’s glance — planets dance
And then I turned away

I wonder what my great, great, great, great
Ancestors would say?
